Description

Wine Details: Clos Roussely Orange Sauvignon Blanc

Alcohol Grade: 13.5%
Aging/ Vinification: The cellar is dug into a tuffeau stone tunnel underground, and underneath the vines. All fermentations are spontaneous and naturally very slow. The resulting wine was aged 6 months in stainless steel before bottling. The wines are neither yeasted, nor chaptalized, nor fined. This implies rigorous work of the grape and very demanding of the wine. Sulfur is used in small doses.
Best to have it: 6-10ºC
Size: 750 ml

The Winery: Domaine Clos Roussely

Planted mainly to Sauvignon Blanc, the soil is a mixture of clay and limestone with pockets of Silex where the oldest vineyards are situated (many of which are over 80 years old).

Clos Roussely is situated near Château Chenonceaux (second only to Versailles as the most visited Château in France) in the appellation of Touraine. The oldest vines on the estate are over 80 years, worked by horse, and harvested by hand. The winery itself is dug deep into the 250-year-old Tufa (Limestone) walls, so wine-making is at a constant temperature allowing for slow ferments. Certified Organic, time does its work here, not chemistry.

The Roussely family bought this property in 1917, it is now owned and run by their gifted and proud traditionalist son, Vincent Roussely.
