Wine details

Grapes grown high in the Pyrenean foothills between 721 and 820 ft altitude. Coastal climate cooled by sea and ocean winds. Clay-siliceous soils.

Alcohol: 13%
Aging/ Vinification: Pre-fermentation in cold under CO2. Harvested at night. Fermented with indigenous yeasts at low temperatures 68° in concrete. Small amount of wood present to stabilize the color and fruits. Extraction using punching techniques. No added sulfites.

Born in 1969 in Paris’s La Goutte d’Or neighborhood, Jeff Carrel took a remarkable turn from chemistry to oenology in 1991, enrolling in Montpellier in the south of France. Graduating in 1994 with a National Diploma in oenology, Jeff’s journey through French vineyards began, from Loire to Alsace, and eventually settling in Languedoc.

By 1998, he helmed Domaine Puydeval, later transitioning into consulting and distribution management. Today, Jeff’s expertise extends across Languedoc Roussillon, Priorat, Bordeaux, Beaujolais, and Bourgogne, with a focus on wines like Puydeval, la Bette, les Herbes Hautes, and more.

His passion for Grenache and Carignan, the venerable pillars of Southern France, inspired Les Darons, a tribute to his roots in the Parisian suburbs where “les darons” affectionately refers to parents. It’s more than wine; it’s a homage to heritage and a celebration of the vineyard’s legacy.
