You’ll taste/smell: A tempranillo with lots of character! Medium body, with a great balance between juicy red fruit, spices, and nutty notes, and a mineral and fresh finish.

Good to have it with: Tempranillo wines are crowd-pleasers and  very versatile. We suggest Mexican “antojitos” such as enchiladas, sopes and tacos.

Wine Details: Tierra de Peña “Tempranillo en la Mañana”

Alcohol Grade: 12.9%

Aging/ Vinification:  Harvested and selected by hand. De-stemming, and fermentation with native yeast in a stainless steel tank. Pressed and transferred to a closed stainless steel tank, then aged in 2nd and 3rd use French Oak Cask. Unfiltered and unclarified.

The Winery: Tierra de Peña

Tierra de Peña was started as a passion project by Luis Fernando Aburto in 2017, with support from Natalia and Branko from Cava Garambullo.

It’s a young winery, that has shown incredible growth with each new vintage. 2020 was the first vintage with Luis Fernando “flying solo” as the winemaker and the results are impressive.

He works exclusively with grapes from their own vineyard, located in Colón, in the state of Querétaro.

Tierra de Peña is one of the few Mexican wineries working with permaculture, a system of sustainable agriculture that requires the development of an ecosystem within the farm intended to be sustainable and self-sufficient.

The farming is done 100% organically and biodynamically, without chemical intervention or the use of pesticides. Many of their wines are zero-zero (no sulfites added at all).
