The Winery: Raventós i Blanc
Raventós i Blanc is one of the longest documented wine traditions in the world. The family farm where our wines are born today belongs to the Raventós family since 1497. Five centuries of dedication to cultivation in these 90 hectares of vineyards and forest, and a saga linked to this land generation after generation. Today, this farm of vineyards, forest and lake remains united, with 44 plots that the current twenty-first generation –Pepe Raventós– cultivates according to biodynamic viticulture. Raventós i Blanc, faithful to tradition, places the relationship between man and nature at the center of its elaboration philosophy.
La Vinya del Llac is a north-facing vineyard, with clayey soils that slowly release water throughout the vegetative cycle, and where, deep down, we find calcareous bedrock, with embedded pebbles, which limit the water reserve, providing more structure to the grapes of this flagship plot. The influence of the lake in this symbolic vineyard moderates the climatic conditions, avoids heat shocks and favors a long maturation. It is a Blanc de Blancs for the three native white varieties: Macabeu, Xarel·lo and Parellada.
The great novelty this year is the incorporation of Malvasía de Sitges in the blend of Blanc de Blancs.
Malvasía de Sitges is a variety that has almost disappeared, which we have recovered on the farm.
The Raventós i Blanc estate, a farm in the hands of the same family for more than five centuries, continues to be a living organism today, whose aim is to promote the ancestral traditions of peasant life in a Penedès farmhouse. It is a 100% biodynamic farm that pursues the creation of biosynergies, a viticultural philosophy in which the land, plants, animals and man work together in the same agricultural unit.
