The Winery: Domaine Amélie & Charles Sparr
Domaine Sparr is the combination of two incredibly experienced Alsatian wine families, with the Sparr family being in Alsace since 1634, Charles is the 12th generation. Since the union of Amélie and Charles, these two young vignerons have strived to bring to life a range of Alsace wine 100% biodynamic. Continuing to expand and purchase vineyards from both sides of the family, in 2013 they realised their dream and launched their eponymous winery. First selling all grapes to negociants until they found the courage to bottle under their own label in 2017.
Amélie & Charles have together taken in hand the destiny of the family vines. Today the estate covers 12 hectares spread around 7 villages, including 2 premiers crus and 4 Grand Crus destined for fine wines. An impressive cartography which, by the diversity of its geology, multiplies the charm of the wines produced. Contours and slopes are just what they need. And nearby, a few parcels not used for vine growing are reserved for the production of compost. A precious balance essential for living in near self-sufficiency, with harvested matter being returned to Mother Nature.
