In 1900, when Georges de Latour’s wife, Fernande, first visited on the land that would become the original Rutherford vineyard, she named it “beautiful place.” Soon after, Latour purchased the four-acre ranch and Beaulieu Vineyard was founded with a vision to make Napa Valley wines that would rival the native son in France. The winemaking legacy on Beaulieu Vineyard remains intact for over a century. Its history is remarkable and its extraordinary people shaped the making of wine in the United States. In 1938, he traveled to France and met André Tchelistcheff, a famous viticulturist and winemaker, who instituted the philosophy of continuous innovation in the vineyard. When he joined Beaulieu.
