The Producer: Casa de Vila Nova
Casa de Vila Nova is a family-owned winery located in the Sousa sub-region of the Vinho Verde Demarcated Region in Northern Portugal. The estate has a rich history dating back to the 12th century, remaining in the Lencastre family for generations. The winery underwent significant modernization in the late 20th century under the direction of LuÃs Lencastre, who revamped the vineyards and invested in new agricultural resources. Today, the estate is managed by the siblings Bernardo, LuÃsa, Sofia, and Filipe, who continue to uphold the family tradition of producing high-quality Vinho Verde wines with minimal intervention in the cellar to let the unique terroir shine through.
The vineyards of Casa de Vila Nova benefit from the Atlantic Ocean’s influence, providing a unique microclimate ideal for producing Vinho Verde. The winery focuses on several grape varieties, including Alvarinho, Avesso, Loureiro, Arinto, and Fernão Pires, among others. The wines are known for their fresh, vibrant profiles, often featuring floral, citrus, and tropical notes.
