Ampeleia Unlitro Costa Toscana IGT 2024

MXN $670

Grape: Alicante Nero, Carignano, Mourvèdre, Sangiovese, Alicante Bouschet

Appellation: IGT Toscana Rosso

Region: Tuscany, Italy

You’ll taste/smell: A blend of Mediterranean grapes from the coast of Tuscany, this is a summer red, think of it as an almost rosé.

Pomegranate, orange peel, and black olives notes, herbaceous and fresh. It finishes with a slightly bitter note that just keeps you going back for more. Even better: comes in a 1-liter bottle!

Good to have it with: Pizzas, pastas, hams, salamis, this is a wine to enjoy with friends anytime.

Best to have it: To enjoy it at its best, we recommend you let it “breathe” for 15-20 minutes and chill it for 45 minutes (not too cold) before serving.

Description

Details about the wine: Ampeleia Unlitro

Alcohol Grade: 12.5%
Vinification: Blend of varieties originating from the Mediterranean Basin— 50% Alicante Nero, 30% Sangiovese, 10% Carignano, 9% Mourvedre, 1% Alicante Bouschet—sourced from vineyards at 180-250 meters above sea level, the lower and more coastal-influenced vineyards of Ampeleia.

The fruit was harvested from the 10th to the 25th of September at yields of 60hl/ha. The varieties were harvested and vinified separately.  A small part of the harvest undergoes carbonic maceration (10%), the rest is either done whole berry or crushed.  Macerations lasted 5-7 days.  Aged 6 months in cement tanks.  165,000 1L bottles produced.

Details about the producer: Ampeleia

AZIENDA AMPELEIA, Roccateterighi, Maremma  – Certified organic and biodynamic by Q Certificazioni and Demeter. Ampeleia (from the Greek word for ‘vine’) is owned by Elisabetta Foradori and Giovani Podini.

The winemaker and agronomist, Marco Tait has been with the estate since its inception in 2002.

It was founded with Elisabetta’s overarching vision of allowing the true nature of an area, its diversity, its grapes, land, and culture to be expressed.

The wildness of the southern Maremma, bounded by the Colle Metallifere and the sea were virgin territory, far removed from the glamour of Bolgheri and Montalcino. The estate is large and biodiverse with a total of 40 ha of vineyard interspersed with chestnut and cork oak forests as well as Mediterranean scrub.

There are three parts, across differing altitudes, with differing soils and microclimates: Ampeleia di Sopra; di Mezzo and di Sotto.
