Felsina Berardenga Chianti Classico 2019

MXN $990

Grape: 100% Sangiovese

Appellation: Chianti Classico DOCG

Region: Tuscany, Italy.

You’ll taste/smell: This is fragrant and floral Chianti with dark berries on the nose. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and a fresh, clean finish. A driven and linear Chianti Classico, fine and elegant aromas dominated by wild berries, along with array of spicy notes. The advantage of this Chianti Classico di Felsina is that it is easy to drink, and has a simple and casual air about it.

Good to have it with: Tomato-based pasta sauces are fantastic, such as the Tuscan slow-simmered Ragù al Chingiale made with wild boar. Pizza is another favorite pairing and works with all styles of Sangiovese

Best to have it: 60-64ºF, 16-18ºC. Decant this wine for at least 2 hours

Description

The estates of Fèlsina, developed over more than a thousand years, still represent the basic drive of Felsina work culture. The farms remain the same: Rancia, Rancino, Arcidosso, Arcidossino/Santa Letizia, Casale di Fèlsina, Fèlsina, Casalino, Santa Maria, San Giuseppe, Ruzzatoio, Molino d’Ombrone, Valli, Molinuzzo, Terra Rossa.

Like all good farmers, Felsina main concern is to protect the soil’s natural fertility, which they strive to do by keeping an open mind to new techniques, avoiding excess, and working in an experimental environment that embraces biodynamic production through the most modern technologies and innovations available worldwide. Vine cultivation is used to obtain the best, mature grapes from a morphological and physiological point of view, and then transform them into wines that express the Fèlsina style.

For decades, mass selections have been cultivated as in no other place, producing numerous Sangiovese clones and rootstocks, allowing us to have an infinite palette of nuances and possibilities, much like a painter has infinite shades to work with. An enterprise the size and diversity of Fèlsina holds a profound responsibility not only to the vineyards it runs, but to preserve the ecosystem and natural environment, keeping the human and technological impact in check.

Chianti Classico is the cornerstone of the estate’s production. The vineyards are located in Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the southeastern part of the Chianti Classico appellation, to the southeast of Siena. Almost exclusively with a southwestern exposure, they sprawl across ventilated slopes at an altitude ranging from 320-420 meters above sea level. Geologically, the terrains are mixed: in the higher parts the soil is predominantly rock quartz and calcareous alberese mixed with alluvial pebbles; strataform sandstone and loam characterize the vineyards on the edge of the Colli Senesi in the direction of the Crete Senesi.
