The Winery: Château Pibarnon
Château de Pibarnon sits high above the Mediterranean in the Bandol appellation, where its vineyards benefit from a rare mix of altitude, exposure, and diverse soils. The estate is known for its terraced vineyards planted on steep limestone slopes, a key factor in the wines’ freshness and complexity. The presence of ancient Triassic clay, rich in minerals, helps retain moisture, ensuring the vines stay resilient even in the warm Provençal summers. The Mediterranean climate, with its sun-drenched days and cooling sea breezes, allows for slow, even ripening, preserving both structure and aromatic intensity in the wines.
Founded in 1975 by Henri and Catherine de Saint Victor, Château de Pibarnon quickly became one of Bandol’s most respected estates. Today, their son, Éric de Saint Victor, continues their vision, focusing on organic and sustainable farming while incorporating elements of biodynamics. The vineyards are cultivated without synthetic chemicals, relying on natural composts and cover crops to maintain soil health. This commitment to preserving the land translates directly into wines that reflect their environment with purity and depth. Pibarnon’s approach is one of tradition and innovation, respecting Bandol’s heritage while always seeking new ways to refine and enhance their wines.
